Description
The XII-century monastery of Leyre in Navarre, Spain, set in beautiful, pristine surroundings, is a wonderful example of Romanesque art. Of historical importance is the fact that it is there where the most ancient monarchs of Navarre are buried. The crypt, dating back to the XI century, presents amazing and very well preserved columns; found there is a large, XVI-century carved image of the Christ of Leyre. One can go back in time to the ancient church, attend Mass and other services, and enjoy the moving Gregorian chants that are sung by the monks daily. All an awesome experience.
