Description
A tiny wild plant with red flowers, growing in an unexpected place, timidly adorns this partial view of the austere castle in Zamora, Spain.
This Middle Ages fortress features features Pre-Roman foundations and a Romanesque general structure. It was built between the 10th and 12th centuries. It stands northwest of the Cathedral, with magnificent views of the town and the river (Wikipedia excerpt, paraphrased). The castle has a diamond shape formed by a series of concentric structures. The Castle experienced a period of great splendor in the Middle Ages, undergoing a major transformation in the eighteenth century to become an artillery fort and adapt well to new methods attack and defense of cities. More recently, the castle underwent restoration that was completed in August 2009 and included gardens and green areas. (Zamora Castle Portal excerpt).
