Description
A Franciscan friar strolls by the columns of the ancient synagogue in Capernaum. Dating of the synagogue is debated and going back, most likely, to sometime after the first century AD. Excavations have revealed a synagogue from Jesus' time with walls of worked stone and 4 feet thick that were preserved up to 3 feet high. The western wall of the earlier synagogue still exists, used as foundation for the later one.
