Description
The steep climbing in Guadalest rewarded me with beautiful sights of nature and wonderful human touches here and there. Although the naturally beautiful surroundings were striking indeed, the terracotta pots by the rustic retaining wall here add charm for sure. El Castell de Guadalest, known usually as Guadalest, is a small town in a mountainous part of the area of Marina Baixa, in the province of Alicante, Spain, it covers an area of 16 sq km, and has a population of around 200 inhabitants. Guadalest is mainly known for its ‘castle,’ not shown on this image, that literally hangs on a cliff. The town walls came under the protection law of the 22nd of April 1949 for Spanish castles. In 1974 El Castell de Guadalest was given the title of historical-artistical monument. Even though Guadalest is a tiny village anchored in a small valley, it is an extremely busy tourist attraction. There are also numerous museums about art, history, and curiosities in life.
