Description
Detail of one of several frescoes in the grotto in the tent-shaped Chapel of Angels at the Shepherds' Field, Bethlehem.
The Shepherds' Field Chapel is a Roman Catholic religious building in the area of Beit Sahur, southeast of Bethlehem in the West Bank in Palestine. The chapel marks the place where, according to Catholic tradition, angels first announced the birth of Christ. This painting reflects the announcement by angels to the shepherds that the promised Savior had been born. Chapel of the Angels was designed by Italian architect Antonio Barluzzi. The chapel adjoins the remains of a 4th-century church and a later agricultural monastery. Other frescoes in the chapel depict the Nativity in the manger, and shepherds playing homage to the child Jesus and celebrating the birth of the Messiah. Bijan, your wonderfully kind comment is a sweet Christmas gift that, though much too generous, is greatly appreciated. Thanks and blessings!
