Description
Wrought metal Jerusalem Cross in front of the altar in the Annunciation grotto, Nazareth, believed to be the site where the Angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would conceive and give birth to God's Son. The grotto, or cave, identified no later than the 4th century, is located within the new Basilica of the Annunciation that was built on the site of ancient Byzantine and Crusader churches; some remains of those churches are visible near the grotto. The new church was consecrated in 1969.
