A view of the Basilica Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, in sepia, from the Alameda Promenade with tile roofs in the foreground. The cathedral is believed to be the burial place of Saint James the Great, one of the apostles of Jesus Christ; it has historically been a place of pilgrimage on the Way of St. James since the Early Middle Ages, the traditional end of the pilgrimage route, unforgettable spiritual experience for millions. The building is a Romanesque structure, with later Gothic and Baroque additions. Santiago de Compostela (Old Town) was designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, No. 320bis, in 1985.
