Description
The Camino, or "the Way" to the pilgrimage site of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Northwestern Spain, goes through many cities; one of them, Avila in Castilla, Spain. Situated against architecture representative of the area, this modern, stylized wrought-iron sculpture incorporates allegories relevant to Saint James and the pilgrimage: the gourd and staff, the emblematic shell, the star -- Compostela means "star field". The old walled city of Avila is in itself of religious importance as the birthplace of Saint Teresa, reformer of the Carmelite religious order. Image is protected by US and international copyright laws, not to be copied, manipulated, or used in any manner without express permission from the artist, Nieves Nitta. Thanks for visiting!
