Artist's Description

In this image, a lone dove adds a soft look to the view from atop the church of St. Ildephonse, or Jesuits, in the historic city of Toledo, Castille-La Mancha, Spain. The church took over one hundred years to build, from 1629 to 1765, and was constructed by initiative of Pedro and Estefania Manrique in honor of St. Ildefonso on lands that had been acquired in 1569 by the Jesuits. The site was former location of several Spanish noble families homes and the birth place of St. Ildefonso who became archbishop of the city and later its patron. Over the years the construction of this monument was lead by several Jesuit architects; baroque in style, it offers striking views of the city.

The Historic City of Toledo, "city of three cultures," holds a cultural and monumental heritage of several historic civilizations and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
