Description
Porto, or Oporto, where the term port wine originated, is the second largest city in Portugal after Lisbon, built along the mouth of the Duoro river, was awarded World Heritage Status by UNESCO, No. 755 in 1996. This partial view of the city, taken from Vila Nova da Gaia shows the traditional, iconic barges known as "rabelos" used to transport spirits up and down the river. The Dom Luis I bridge designed by Teofilo Seyring, a disciple of Eiffel and built in 1886 joins the city center with Villa Nova da Gaia. Image protected by US and international laws, not to be copied, manipulated, or use in any manner without prior written consent from the artist, Nieves Nitta. Thanks for visiting!
