Description
The Monastery of Saint Mary of the Parral, from the onset part of the order of St. Jerome, is situated just outside Segovia. It is a 15th-century church and monastery complex with striking views of the city, including its famous and historical Alcazar. The complex was closed as part of Spain's secularization in 1835 and fell in bad disrepair; but in the 20th century it was entrusted to and restored by the Roman Catholic order of Saint Jerome. There is a picturesque path that leads from here towards the Alcazar and also to the Church of Our Lady of Fuencisla, saint patron of Segovia. The image offered here shows the almost-secluded entrance to this wonderful church and monastery, sister to Our Lady of Guadalupe in Extremadura, Spain.
