Description
Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida's love for colorful tiles and ceramics can be seen all around the wonderful yard and inside his home/studio built between 1910 and 1911 and later converted in a museum. This tile depicting Santa Barbara is an example.
The principal rooms continue to be furnished as they were during the artist's life, including Sorolla's large, well-lit studio, where the walls are filled with his canvasses (wikipedia excerpt). The Hispanic Society of America in New York City is home to a very important collection of works by this artist. A major component of this museum is the Sorolla Room which was reinstalled in 2010. It displays The Provinces of Spain, 14 massive paintings commissioned by Archer Huntington that Sorolla created from 1911 to 1919. These magnificent paintings, totaling over 200 linear feet (61 m), ring the large room and depict scenes from each of the provinces of Spain (Wikipedia excerpt). Image protected by US and international copyright laws, not to be copied, manipulated, or used in any manner without prior consent from the photographer, Nieves Nitta. Thanks for visiting!
