Description
Viewed from the road it looks like any other old ranch structure with proudly displayed branding symbol but it is a significant part of Western and Texas history.
The (Texas) State Historical Marker Committee in 1968 erected a marker (not part of this image) on the site of the Loving Ranch house in Jermyn, Jack County, that reads: "SITE OF LOVING RANCH HOUSE. BUILT 1872 BY J.C. LOVING, THE SON OF PIONEER TRAIL DRIVER OLIVER LOVING. J. C. LOVING WAS AN ORGANIZER AND FIRST SECRETARY OF TEXAS AND SOUTHWESTERN CATTLE RAISER ASSOCIATION. THE ORGANIZATION FIRST OFFICE WAS AT THE RANCH, WHICH WAS LATER OPERATED BY LOVING'S SON OLIVER II."
James C. Loving (1836–1902) was an American cattleman and rancher in Texas. He raised "the largest purebred shorthorn herd" in the United States by the end of the nineteenth century. He was a co-founder of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and served as its secretary for twenty-seven years. J. C. Loving was the son of Oliver Loving who, with another cattle-enterprising pioneer, Charles Goodnight, begun what later became known as the Goodnight-Loving Trail (Wikipedia excerpt). Love the attention to composition... the tree leaning over the house, the little metal adornment and the fence in the foreground, the wispy clouds. Taken all together, it's a great and interesting shot. Lf

I love the perspective of this capture! The tree and barn are striking in themselves and I like the way you were able to repeat the brand pattern! l/f
