Artist's Description

Our Lady of Grace church situated in the esplanade of Sagres, Portugal, near the San Vicente cape, where mariners and sailors trained for the ocean journeys of discovery of the New World and beyond. The promontory of Sagres has always been important for sailors because it offers a shelter for ships before attempting the dangerous voyage around Cape St. Vincent (could be Belixe Bay, between Sagres Point and the Cape, or Sagres Bay, to the east). Given the dangers of being blown onto the coastal rocks, captains preferred to wait in the lee of the point until favourable winds allowed them to continue. Image protected by US and international copyright laws, not to be copied, altered, or used in any manner without prior written approval from the artist, Nieves Nitta. Thanks for visiting!

It is a wonderfully beautiful world out there, and soon after starting taking pictures I felt impelled to share those images with friends, family, and beyond, as a way to relive the moments that I had so enjoyed capturing, perhaps even allowing others to see those places, people, art,...
