Description
The Monastery of Saint Mary of the Parral, from the onset part of the order of St. Jerome, is situated just outside Segovia; it is a 15th-century church and monastery with striking views of the city, including its famous and historical Alcazar. The complex was closed as part of Spain's secularization in 1835 and fell in bad disrepair; but in the 20th century it was entrusted to and restored by the Roman Catholic order of Saint Jerome. The path that starts here toward the picturesque Alameda is flanked by old fig and other fruit trees. La Alameda is a beautiful unpaved pedestrian narrow road that leads to near the Church of Our Lady of Fuencisla, saint patron of Segovia. From the Alameda one can admire beautiful views and the iconic Alcazar, another famous landmark of Segovia. The monastery in the image background is sister to the one in Guadalupe, Extremadura, Spain.
