Description
The Spirit of Music Statue, Theodore Thomas Memorial, located in Chicago’s Grant Park on the corner of Balbo and South Michigan Avenue. It was commissioned by the B.F. Ferguson Monument Fund, as a memorial to Theodore Thomas [1835-1905], first conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra [CSO], and completed in 1923 by Albin Polasek and Howard Van Doren Shaw. The memorial is surrounded by the Spirit of Music garden.
