Description
On a visit to the historical Aranjuez quite a few years ago with my new, not-so-powerful, first digital camera, I had the fortune of finding the beautiful site profusely adorned with flowers, many of them growing in classic urns on pedestals along the walkways by the water. Although I visited the same places a couple times later, the area was not so carefully (exquisitely, one would say) attended. For that reason I decided to share this and a few other images captured in 2005.
The Royal Site of Aranjuez is located at the confluence of the Tagus and Jarama rivers, 42 kms (26 mi) south of Madrid, and 44 kms (27 mi) from Toledo. It has been one of the Royal Estates of the Crown of Spain since the times of Philip II in 1560. Until 1752, only the royalty and nobility were allowed to dwell in the town. The Cultural Landscape of Aranjuez was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001, Site No. 1044. ( Wikipedia Commons). The amazing, beautiful gardens were celebrated Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo's inspiration for his wonderful work Concierto de Aranjuez. The site is a popular tourist destination favored by countless Spanish as well as visitors from all over the world.
