Description
On a visit to the historical Aranjuez quite a few years ago with my new, not-so-powerful, first digital camera, I had the fortune of finding the site profusely adorned with flowers, many of them growing in classic urns on pedestals along the walkways by the water. Although I visited the same places a couple times later, the area was not so carefully (exquisitely, one would say) attended. For that reason I decided to share this and a few other images captured in 2005.
Aranjuez, also called the Royal Estate of Aranjuez, is a city and municipality, capital of the Las Vegas district, in the southern part of the Community of Madrid, Spain. It is located at the confluence of the Tagus and Jarama rivers, 42 kilometres (26 mi) south of Madrid, and 44 kilometres (27 mi) from Toledo. It has been one of the Royal Estates of the Crown of Spain since the times of Philip II in 1560. Until 1752, only the royalty and nobility were allowed to dwell in the town. The Cultural Landscape of Aranjuez was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001. (Info from Wikipedia) This image shows part of the complex around the royal palace. UNESCO World Heritage Site No. 1044.
