Artist's Description
UNESCO World Heritage Site No. 1312. The Tower of Hercules is one of the oldest Roman lighthouses still in operation in the world, located in what is called Finisterre (end of the world) between the cove of Orzán and the Gulf of Ártabro in the Old City of A Coruña. This Roman lighthouse dates back from the time of Trajan, ancient Brigantium, 2nd century AD. The tower was refurbished in 1788, in neoclassical style, by order of King Charles IV of Spain. The square ground plan measures 68 metres and the light that it casts is visible at sea from a distance of 32 miles. The tower is divided into three sections, each successively narrower, up to the lantern. There are a total of 242 steps leading to the top of the lighthouse, but the effort is well worthwhile for its magnificent views of the city of A Coruña and its coastline. According to mythology, Hercules cut off the head of Geryon and built this monument after burying his remains below.

It is a wonderfully beautiful world out there, and soon after starting taking pictures I felt impelled to share those images with friends, family, and beyond, as a way to relive the moments that I had so enjoyed capturing, perhaps even allowing others to see those places, people, art,...
